Facebook Is Not the Problem

We have all seen it. Pictures of Christians who are scantily clad, who are in inappropriate places, or who use language that is crude or sinful; all of it captured on their Facebook wall. I have sure heard a lot of complaints, both in my local work and elsewhere. Someone told me that Facebook is the work of the devil. That perhaps may be true, but I think Facebook is not the problem.

Facebook is merely a manifestation of a deeper problem. Jesus addressed it in Mark 7:21-23: “For from within, out of the heart of men, proceed evil thoughts, adulteries, fornications, murders, Thefts, covetousness, wickedness, deceit, lasciviousness, an evil eye, blasphemy, pride, foolishness: All these evil things come from within, and defile the man.” The problem with all of these issues mentioned above is the heart behind them.

If the heart were not corrupt, Facebook would not be filled with compromising Christians who are conformed to the world (cp. Romans 12:1-2). Get the wickedness out of your heart, and the purity of your Facebook account will follow.
