Who Can Be Married?

There are three categories described in the Bible which help us to answer the above question. It is our steadfast desire that everyone who can enjoy God’s wonderful blessing of marriage. However, we do not want anyone to be in sin so it is necessary to examine this topic.

First, those who have never been married. Everyone should do their very best to choose a mate who can be married according to the scriptures and who will help them make it to heaven.

Second, those whose mates have died. Romans 7:2 says, “For the woman which hath a husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband is dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband.”

Third, those who are divorced for the cause of fornication. Romans 7:3 says, “So then if, while her husband liveth, she is married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband is dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she is married to another man.” This agrees with the teaching of Jesus in Matthew 19:9. If anyone is divorced for any other cause and remarries, they will commit adultery and the person they marry will commit adultery as well.

If you want to go to heaven, you cannot violate these scriptures and be in sin. You must choose wisely and set aside emotion. Choosing poorly is not worth losing your soul!
