Throughout the years, we have all heard the story of Lot’s wife that turned into salt (Genesis 19:15-26). How upon turning towards Sodom she was instantly lost. The story is so infamous that the Lord himself used her as an example about looking back (Luke 17:32).
There are several things that I wish to examine that some don’t give thought to when remembering Lot’s wife. She was a righteous woman all the way up to the point of turning around. Even though she was righteous up to that point, her sin caused her demise. A point that often is missed in her account, is the fact that she was in Zoar when she was turned into a pillar of salt. Most people assume that it was during her time of fleeing in the plains that she was lost, but the destruction would not start until Lot and his family were in the city. She was with the saved in Zoar, she was home free, but yet she still turned around.
She had done so much towards her salvation but her one recorded mistake cost her her life. Let’s all remember Lot’s wife and remember that we too can be lost in the last mile of the way.
