Ecclesiastes 7:2-3 says, “It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart. Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.” The house of sickness is like Ecclesiastes’ house of mourning. There is lot to learn, and a lot to make the heart better.
- Among those blessings that we can readily appreciate and that the Bible spells out are:
- It reminds us that we are frail (Psalm 39:4).
- It humbles us and makes us thankful for every day we feel good (Job 14:1).
- It declares that this world and life are not why we exist (John 6:27).
- The Lord will take note of it (Matthew 25:34-36).
These are only a few of the benefits of visiting the sick. This is not the entire duty of a Christian, but it is a good part of it, and by this we declare we are truly disciples of Jesus.
