A railway conductor began taking tickets one morning and discovered that the first passenger had the wrong ticket. “I’m sorry, sir,” said the conductor, “but you’re on the wrong train. You’ll have to change trains at the next station.”
He took several more tickets and found that these passengers were also carrying wrong tickets. It seemed strange that so many people would’ve made the same mistake. After carefully checking the train’s manifest, the conductor realized that he was on the wrong train!
Sometimes God’s people are like the poor conductor, and as a result, they lead others astray. We’d better know where God’s going and follow Him in that direction. Doing that takes love and respect for God, the ultimate esteem for His Word, and the greatest care to learn that Word and be able to understand and communicate its authority. That’s the difference between mere “religious” activity and true spiritual growth. And by extension, that’s the difference between going to heaven and leading others there — and eternal condemnation.
