What if you could only choose one car to drive the rest of your life? What about only one job or one house? How would you go about making your decision? Would it be rash or well thought out? Would you seek the advice of others or ignore the wisdom and experience they possess? Our guess is, if you could choose only one car, job or house for the rest of your life, you would not pick the first one that comes along. While we are not limited to only one car, job or house, we are limited to one spouse.
God’s plan for men and women and marriage is, one man for one woman for life (Matthew 19:4-6). An exception is when one mate commits sexual immorality. The innocent one has the right to put the guilty away and remarry (Matthew 19:9). Also, the “for life” means if your spouse dies you have the right to marry again (Romans 7:1-3). Other than these two situations, it is sinful to have more than one spouse. Therefore, when you think about choosing a mate, listen to others who are mature, your parents and faithful Christians, and do not be rash. Most importantly, look for a mate who will help you get to heaven!
