I heard a survey on the radio once which stated that only 10% of Americans are optimistic about the future. This survey contained familiar concerns: slipping morality, economic and financial pressures, and political problems. No matter how you get your news, there is enough bad news to send us all into a spiraling depression.
If there is any time when a Christian can shine, it is now. One of the wonderful characteristics of light is that it attracts (Matthew 5:14-15). As we let our lights shine from day to day, we have the potential to attract all those who are dejected over current affairs and radiate a divine confidence. This confidence will be sure and steadfast, no matter what happens here. So this week, show people around you a heavenly optimism (Colossians 1:5-6) based on a heavenly citizenship (Philippians 3:20) which transcends earthly problems. You never know what it can do!
