Abstinence-Only Sex Education in Danger?

With the new administration, critics of abstinence-only sex education will make an aggressive push to cut off federal funding for what they consider an ineffective, sometimes harmful program. Cecile Richards, president of the Planned Parenthood Federation of American, depicted the federal abstinence-only program as “an utter failure that has wasted more than $1.5 billion” over the past decade.

Unbelievably, Rep. Louise Slaughter, D-N.Y., said, “We believe the amount of money that goes into it would be so much better used on things to prevent unwanted pregnancies. I think we’ll have enough votes [in Congress, kc] to deal with it.” That is truly an interesting statement, for the purpose of “sex education” supposedly is to prevent unwanted pregnancies!

Paul simply said, “Flee fornication” (1 Corinthians 6:18). “Fornication” includes premarital sex which the Bible plainly says is wrong. Hebrews 13:4 says, “Marriage is honourable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge.” “Whoremongers” are fornicators. It seems to me that if a school system has to teach topics which would be more appropriate being taught at home, then teaching about how to refrain from immoral sexual conduct would be fitting. I can only hope that parents are teaching their children righteousness from the home (Ephesians 6:4). No matter what schools teach, children need to “Hear … the instruction of a father, and attend to know understanding. For I give you good doctrine, forsake ye not my law” (Proverbs 4:1-2). Children, listen to the morality taught to you by godly parents!
