Are Psychics Real?

We have seen them on TV commercials and read their ads in newspapers and magazines. A good number of people are place great confidence in their predictions. What about these psychics? Several points should be considered:

  • While great claims are made by psychics, they have a very poor record in predicting the future. Gene Emery, science writer for the Providence Journal, wrote, “From what I saw, psychics missed every major unexpected news story.”
  • Their predictions are often wild and outrageous. For instance, a psychic once predicted thousands would die when a teenager in South Carolina accidentally detonated a homemade nuclear bomb in his basement!
  • Many of their claimed successes are based upon predictions that any knowledgeable person could have made by simply keeping up with the news and developing trends.
  • Finally, the Bible teaches that miracles have ceased (1 Corinthians 13:8-13). No person has a miraculous ability to see the future.

Can we really put our faith in psychics? Or should we stay away from them because all such things are “works of the flesh” (Galatians 5:20)? You should not need a psychic to answer this one!
