Back to School Time

Much to the disappointment of most of our children here, school will start again in just a few short weeks, and you need to be thinking about the right school supplies. From a spiritual standpoint, think about these four supplies to take with you to school.

First, a purposed heart. Daniel remained faithful to God because he “… purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself …” (Daniel 1:8). One rea- son why many do evil is they are lacking purpose of heart (2 Chronicles 12:14). Make up your mind now, before you go to school, that you will not let anything corrupt you.

Second, your influence. Most schools today are filled with darkness. You will need to “let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven” (Matthew 5:16). As you go back to school, don’t forget your light! Third, sound speech. A lot of speech heard at school is not sound. Be sure to take to school “sound speech that cannot be condemned …” (Titus 2:8). Remember you will be judged by your words (Matthew 12:37), so use your mouth to do good (Colossians 4:6). Fourth, virtue. Peter said, “And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue …” (2 Peter 1:5). Virtue is courage to stand up for what is right. Many will not stand up for what they believe in.

There is always pressure to be like others. Be courageous and take a stand! As you round up supplies in the next few weeks for this school year, don’t forget the most important ones.
