Most graduations are over, and as seniors you will move on to another step on the road of your lives. You will be charting your course and deciding how you will spend the rest of your life. You will have many competing views as to how to be successful. Psalm 119:9 says, “Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.” Let’s consider what you must do to be spiritually successful.
First, you need to obey the gospel. You will hear the word (John 6:44-45), believe it (Hebrews 11:6), repent of your sins (Acts 17:30), confess Jesus as Lord (Matthew 10:32) and be baptized (1 Peter 3:21). The Bible says that you will not be saved unless you obey these steps (Hebrews 5:8-9). In short, you will not be spiritually successful unless you first obey the gospel. No one can draw near to God without this step.
Second, you need to be faithful to the gospel. Revelation 2:10 says, “… be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.” Hopefully, you want to get to heaven, but to do so, you must abide by in the doctrine of Christ (2 John 9). Practically, this means that you will have to make very bold and good decisions regarding entertainment, companions, language, attitudes and dress. All of these are potential pitfalls for the young man or woman who wants to live godly.
You have reached a wonderful time in your life. Make the most of it by living faithfully and putting God first (Matthew 6:33). In this way, you will enjoy abundant life (John 10:10; Matthew 19:29).
