I Need My Congregation

I am part of the congregation — one among many — but I am one. I need the church for the development of my spiritual life. I cannot be what I need to be without the church. The church is divine in its purpose, which is to point people toward God. Participating in the privileges of the church, I will also share in its responsibilities, taking it upon myself to carry my fair share of the load, not grudgingly, but joyfully. If I fail in my responsibilities, the congregation suffers; if I succeed, the congregation succeeds

I will not wait to be drafted for service in my congregation. I will volunteer, saying, “Here am I, send me” (Isaiah 6:8). I will be loyal in my attendance, generous in my giving, kind in my criticism, creative in my suggestions and loving in my attitudes. I will give to my congregation my interest, enthusiasm, and devotion, but most of all, myself.
