I get the opportunity to see into the minds of atheists and agnostics every once in a while. And one of the latest chances taught me that members of the aforementioned groups think there’s nothing rational at all about the Scriptures. In fact, they believe the Bible is a ridiculous fairy tale, and everyone who believes it has a mental illness.
These interactions bring to mind that Paul told the Corinthians that the “gospel is veiled” to those who are “perishing” (2 Corinthians 4:3). He furthermore said that the “god of this age” has “blinded” their minds (v. 4). In short, Satan is a liar and the father of lies (John 8:44).
Sadly, one of the easiest lies of Satan is that the Scriptures aren’t a “rational” explanation of the Universe. An unbeliever gets the advantage of closing their mind — and after all — it’s very “logical” to do so. Why? Because Satan has created a new god, called “Science,” to take the place of God’s revealed Word. And as long as it does that, belief in the power of God will be irrational to them.
