Legality Does Not Equal Morality #4

At one time our nation prohibited the sale of alcohol. This only lasted for a short time, as the overwhelming majority of people were in favor of the legal sale and consumption of alcohol. Thought it is legal, it does not make it moral.

The Bible repeatedly warns about the dangers of alcohol. The wise man said, “Wine is a mocker, Strong drink is a brawler, And whoever is led astray by it is not wise” (Proverbs 20:1). Also, “Do not look on the wine when it is red, When it sparkles in the cup, When it swirls around smoothly; At the last it bites like a serpent, And stings like a viper” (Proverbs 23:31-32). In 1 Peter 4:3-4, every degree of intoxication is condemned: drunkenness (i.e. drunkard), revelries (i.e. college frat parties), drinking parties (i.e. social drinking).

Why does the Bible warn about alcohol? Look at society. Alcohol is the cause of numerous troubles: crime, abuse, broken homes, death. Making alcohol legal, does not make it moral.
