Of Cat Killings

In The Dallas Morning News, July 30, 1998 (p. 28A), there was a story about cat killings in Allen, Texas. The headline read “Allen cat killings called worst in decade; clues sought.” The article told of the recent mutilations of several cats and how awful that was. It told how the board members of the Dallas-based SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) and an Allen resident pledged $7,500 as a reward for the arrest and conviction of the one(s) responsible. Also, it told of the fact that Allen police were investigating (with intentions of arresting someone). DOES ANYONE ELSE SEE A PROBLEM HERE!?!

When we read the article it struck us like lightening — WHAT ABOUT THE BABIES!?! What about all those children who are being slaughtered in the houses of iniquity and abomination (a.k.a. abortion clinics)!?! In fact, a recent issue in the news has been the “partial-birth-abortion” (where a baby is delivered feet first, except the head, then the base of the skull is punctured and the brains sucked out). WHY IS IT THAT POLICE ARE NOT INVESTIGATING THESE EVENTS? Because, we live in a “wicked and adulterous generation.”

Something is terribly wrong with a society in which killing a cat can land you in jail while killing a baby grants you special protection under the law! “RIGHTEOUSNESS EXALTETH A NATION: BUT SIN IS A REPROACH TO ANY PEOPLE” (Prov. 14:34). “THESE SIX THINGS DOTH THE LORD HATE: YEA, SEVEN ARE AN ABOMINATION UNTO HIM … HANDS THAT SHED INNOCENT BLOOD” (Prov. 6:16-17).

Yes, abortion is an abomination in the eyes of God Almighty. He looks upon life in the womb to be just as legitimate and valuable as that outside the womb. The same word “babe” is used to describe John in the womb and Jesus in swaddling clothes (Lk. 1:41; 2:12; cf. 1:15). In the Old Testament, if two men were fighting and caused a woman to lose her child, which was in the womb, the offender was to be put to death (Ex. 21:22-25).

Should we blow up abortion clinics or kill the sin-sick doctors and nurses who perform abortions? NO!!! First, let us make sure we are living according to God’s will (Mk. 16:16; Acts 2:38). Then, let us teach His will to others, including those involved in the sin of abortion (Matt. 28:19-20). The grace of God can forgive even them (Eph. 2:8-9; 1 Cor. 6:9-11).
