Solomon’s Fame

During Solomon’s reign, “… the queen of Sheba heard of the fame of Solomon concerning the name of the Lord, she came to test him with hard questions” (1 Kings 10:1).

Solomon’s fame was connected to God, related to his achievements on behalf of God. This was likely a result of the temple he had built for God. This sort of fame is rare today. The famous today are generally in some field of achievement that has nothing to do with deity. In fact, many of the famous do not have faith in or are devoted to the Lord. Very few people have fame that honors God.

Today, if anyone gets excited for God, he doesn’t gain fame but more likely notoriety. Such a person will be mocked and ridiculed and his fame will not be respected. A wicked Hollywood star will gain more popularity in this world than a dedicated Christian. However, the one who is persecuted for the sake of righteousness will be blessed by God in the judgment (Matthew 5:10).
