The Benefits of Drawing Near to God

There are many people to which drawing near to God is appealing. There is a good reason for this, for there are many benefits for those who will draw near to God. There are at least four that are worth examining.

First, there is safety, Psalm 119:117 says, “Hold thou me up, and I shall be safe: and I will have respect unto thy statutes continually.” If you draw near to God, He promises to keep and shelter you (Hebrews 13:5-6; 1 Peter 5:7; 3:13).

Second, one can find joy in Christ. Peter wrote, “Whom having not seen, ye love; in whom, though now ye see him not, yet believing, ye rejoice with joy unspeakable and full of glory” (1 Peter 1:8). Joy is one of the fruits of the Spirit Galatians 5:22).

Third, we have protection against temptation. Psalm 119:11 says, “Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.” The Lord will faithfully provide a way of escape (1 Corinthians 10:13).

Finally, we are consoled with the nearness of God. “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach” (Romans 10:8). Hebrews 4:14-16 tells us that we always have the avenue of approach to the “throne of grace.”

Matthew 5:8 says, “Blessed are the pure in heart: for they shall see God.” Are you pure in heart? Are you interested in drawing near to God? In another post, we will examine the effects of drawing near to God. If you would like to study further, please contact us.
