The Tower of Babel

Genesis 11:1-4 says, “And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech … And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them thoroughly … And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we are scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth.” When the tower was built, men decided how to please God, and it ended in utter failure.

Denominations now try to do the same. So many programs and methods are attempted to try to “bring people to Christ,” but when these violate God’s commands, they are as much an affront to God as the people in Babel. Perhaps the worst part of all is that they do not respect God and His will.

What is needed is a steadfast return to the pattern of biblical authority: “See, saith he, that thou make all things according to the pattern …” (Hebrews 8:5).
