Two Noteworthy Events

In 2018, Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice from the Spice Girls, revealed that she has no intention of allowing her daughter Harper to wear her risqué outfits that were so prominent in their act. “I was amazed by how naked the costumes were, I have to say,” she said in an interview. “I used to go out with not a lot of clothing on.” Regarding her daughter and the wearing of those vintage clothes, Beckham said, “Absolutely not. She’s like, ‘Wow mummy, you used to wear really short skirts,’”

Beckham said. “‘Yes I did, Harper, and no, you’re not going to.’ It’s that classic ‘do as I say, don’t do as I do.’” We absolutely need more moms who will say “No” to what their children want to wear. Both boys and girls who dress immodestly often have their parents to blame. Boys who run around without a shirt on and girls who wear shorts up to their crotch or revealing tops are breaking the holy commandment given by God for modesty in dress (1 Timothy 2:9-10) and purity in thought (Matthew 5:8).

Second, in recognition of National Coming Out Day, Lipscomb University’s (Nashville, TN) LGBTQ+ students painted the Bison (Lipscomb University’s on-campus mascot) rainbow colors, standing around it from early morning until evening week before last in support of the LGBT community on campus. Lipscomb University is one of several universities supported by churches of Christ.

Several years ago, Lipscomb University began showing tolerance toward homosexuality in its annual Christian Scholars Conference. The wording of Lipscomb’s student handbook has been undergoing a slight evolution away from wording specifically condemning homosexuality. But the Bible is very clear in its condemnation. Homosexuality is referred to as “vile affections” and “against nature” (Romans 1:26). Those who practice it will not go to heaven (1 Corinthians 6:9-10). If conservative brethren believe that these changes can’t come to them, the devil has already won.
