Why Jesus Came #1

On several occasions, Jesus stated various reasons as to why He came into the world. He came to give light, reveal the truth, fulfills the law, etc. However, in this article and in the next, we are going to examine some of the more interesting reasons why Jesus came.

The first reason why Jesus came is to kindle a fire. In Luke 12:49, He says, “I am come to send fire on the earth; and what will I, if it be already kindled?” In Jeremiah 23:29, the question is asked, “Is not my word like as a fire? saith the Lord; and like a hammer that breaketh the rock in pieces?” By the fire of His Word, the Lord burns evil out of people’s hearts and destroys impurities in their lives.

The second reason why Jesus came is to cause division Luke 12:51-53 says, “Suppose ye that I am come to give peace on earth? I tell you, Nay; but rather division: For from henceforth there shall be five in one house divided, three against two, and two against three. The father shall be divided against the son, and the son against the father; the mother against the daughter, and the daughter against the mother; the mother in law against her daughter in law, and the daughter in law against her mother in law.” Matthew 10:37 adds, “He that loveth father or mother more than me is not worthy of me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than me is not worthy of me.” He came to start warfare against the forces of sin and error. He leads the charge against unrighteousness!

In our next post, we will examine three more reasons why Jesus came and make an application for our readers’ benefit.
