The Cross of Christ

When Jesus died on the cross, it was the greatest event known to man. However, if it is so important, then how should we respond to the cross? We are going to examine two points about the cross which should help us make a good decision.

We Glory in the Cross

We glory in the cross because God does for us what we cannot do. Galatians 6:14 says, “But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.” Paul wrote, “But by the grace of God I am what I am” in 1 Corinthians 15:10. God NEVER does for man what man can do for himself! We are blessed by the salvation we have in Christ.

We Must Take Up Our Cross

When we obey, we must then live like a Christian. In Matthew 16:24, Jesus said, “If anyone desires to come after Me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow Me.” Matthew 10:38 says, “And he who does not take his cross and follow after Me is not worthy of Me.” If we do not stop sinning, then we cannot receive a heavenly reward. John explains sin not as a single event, but as a habitual action (1 John 1:7-10). We cannot “walk” in sin and expect to be saved.

We should be thankful for what God has done for us with the cross. That gratitude should express itself in humble obedience. If you would like to obey the gospel, please contact us for a study.
