Is God a Liberal?
Several years ago, a letter to the editor ran in our newspaper entitled “God is a Liberal.” At the end of the letter, the writer proclaimed that not only is God a liberal, but Jesus and the apostles were liberal and that he was a liberal. His point was that God encourages being liberal or […]
The Open-Ended Gospel
Although this nation that we live in is considered by most of the public as a Christian nation, the actual numbers and facts to those who really believe in the Bible and its teachings would prove otherwise. Our nation would reflect a vast number of people who make the claim that they believe in the […]
The Joys of Muslim Women
Islamic law is now the most widely used religious law, and one of the three most common legal systems of the world alongside common law and civil law (Roman law). The way in which Islamic law addresses women is particularly troubling. In Islamic (Sharia) law, a Muslim man can marry a child as young as […]
What Is the “Five-Fold Ministry”?
The “Five-Fold Ministry” is charismatic teaching which says that God has restored, or is restoring, the offices of apostle and prophet in the church, along with the work of evangelists, pastors, and teachers (Ephesians 4:11). They say that “the five ministry giftings will precede the greatest outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Holiness and power […]
Modern Religiosity
This semester I have the pleasure of taking a “History of Christianity” class in college, and I overheard a conversation in class which was representative of how many people in the United States view religion. The discussion was in part about baptism, and they were discussing what each religious group taught about it. The discussion […]
Vatican Seeks Signs of Alien Life
In November 2009, the Vatican called in experts to study the possibility of extraterrestrial alien life and its implication for the Catholic Church. “The questions of life’s origins and of whether life exists elsewhere in the universe are very suitable and deserve serious consideration,” said the Rev. Jose Gabriel Funes, an astronomer, and director of […]
The Boldness of Creation
Whenever we walk outside and see the sun or feel the wind blowing around us, we take notice, a simple notice, of the fact that they are there, and that they never change. The wind may blow harder and softer, but it remains wind. Or the sun may feel hotter at times, and other times […]
The Hidden Word
The Word of God lives and abides in you. Peter said in his first epistle, “… having been born again, not of corruptible seed but incorruptible, through the word of God which lives and abides forever” (1:23). Jesus said in Matthew 6:19-20, “Do not lay up for yourselves treasures on earth, where moth and rust […]
Five Witnesses to the Claims of Jesus #2
In our last post we examined two of five witnesses Jesus presented in John 5 that witnessed to the truth of His claims: He is deity and the long promised and expected Messiah. Those first two witnesses were the testimony of John the Baptist, and the works the Father gave His Son to do. This […]
“But if the Unbeliever Depart”
In 1 Corinthians 7:15, God wrote, “But if the unbelieving depart, let him depart. A brother or a sister is not under bondage in such cases: but God hath called us to peace.” God, in His infinite wisdom, provided the scriptures for mankind written in a language perfectly suited for the message of redemption. It […]
